Pearl Markarian
Co-Chairman, President, and CEO
Pearl Markarian, Co-Chairman, President & CEO of Landmark Incentive Marketing, founded Landmark in 1972. Since that time, Pearl has covered most of the world, designing and executing premium incentive travel programs for our Landmark customers. A renowned expert in the industry, Pearl’s zeal for creating the “wow factor” in travel has spanned almost four decades and combines with Landmark’s innovative marketing concepts to make Landmark topnotch in the industry today.
Pearl has nurtured Landmark molding it into the company it is today. “Details” are Pearl’s calling card and trademark, emphasizing the separation from Landmark’s competitors by recognizing the dedication necessary to accomplish Pearl’s standards. The belief that we as a company can never be complacent with best efforts, Pearl drives Landmark by focusing on exceeding client expectations and awareness. Throughout her tenure, Pearl’s successes through Landmark have been footnoted as “once in a lifetime” experiences.
Pearl exceeds the “can do” attitude with a “will do” posture, recognized by her ability to create destinations where there was not one. China, Santander, Rio to name a few, although traveled locations, did not become incentive destinations until Pearl devised and crafted itineraries and venues suitable for the Landmark client. Her ability to recognize the potential, to overcome the obstacle, and to teach her suppliers new and innovative ways to provide their product and hence properly service the Landmark client are what distinguishes Pearl and Landmark amongst all others. Furthermore, Pearl will not hesitate to change any procedure, update any standard, or revise any program that she feels is unworthy of the “Landmark” standard which has flourished as a uniquely recognized brand in corporate travel.
Loved by her clients and respected by her peers, Pearl is welcomed and acknowledged at industry tradeshows by vendors throughout the world. Many of her negotiations and venue stylings have become standards widely used to this day. Pearl’s legacy is marked by numerous firsts. Landmark was the first one to get group tee times at the Ancient course in Scotland’s St Andrews by befriending the head caddy, and finding a way to get temporary memberships for our Landmark guests. When Dromoland Castle flatly refused our using all their 46 rooms because they felt it took away from their prestige, Pearl showed them that it would not only enhance their prestige but develop their presence in the marketplace. Even the Vatican has been Pearlsonalized; through her sheer cunning, Pearl met with the Papal administrator and convinced him to allow our Landmark group to have an exclusive viewing of the Sistine chapel and a private cocktail reception in the Pope’s personal gardens, which had only been used for Heads of State. Just recently, Pearl convinced, through sharing her knowhow, a major five star resort to provide Landmark with an all inclusive package which they have historically refused to do.
Pearl’s level of business acumen is well versed from the design of Landmark’s proprietary organizational software to our procedural and execution systems that form the guidelines of Landmark’s mission statement. With her Commercial Art background, Pearl also oversees all of Landmark’s promotional production pieces. Her keen eye on Landmark’s presence in the marketplace keeps her attention directed towards new and innovative technologies, current trends, and fresh presentations.
Educated as a commercial artist, Pearl’s professional career started as Art Director of several magazines. She has exhibited her fine art works and won many awards for her commercial art works. She also had an early career as a photographic model and as pitchwoman for many television commercials.
Pearl is a graduate of Philadelphia College of Arts. She has raised five children and loves to cook and entertain family and friends at every opportunity.
